About Lux Meters

Lux Meter, How to use light meters?
FOREWORD

This is a picture of a modern living room environment showing the use of light meters in daily life to save energy. Pictured are various lighting equipment such as lamps, ceiling lights and LED strips. A person is using a handheld light meter to measure the illumination in different areas of a room. The setup includes a large window that lets natural light into the room, which creates a comfortable and energy-efficient atmosphere. There are energy saving indicators, such as energy consumption monitors on the wall, and lighting is optimized to suit different activities, such as reading and relaxing.

How to Use a Lux Meter?

A Lux meter is an instrument used to measure light intensity. When using it, the sensor should be facing the light source or the area that needs to be measured. Avoid directly touching or obstructing the sensor to ensure accurate measurements. Depending on the model, Lux meters may offer multiple modes and settings for measuring different ranges and types of light.

What is the difference between Lux (LUX) and Foot-candles (fc)?

Lux and Foot-candles are both units for measuring light intensity, but they differ slightly.
Lux (LUX) is the unit of luminance in the International System of Units, whereas Foot-candles (fc) are mainly used in the United States. One Foot-candle is approximately equal to 10.764 Lux.

Can LUX be converted to Candlelight?

Yes, 1 Lux is equivalent to 1 lumen per square meter, so 1 Lux is approximately equal to 0.318 candlelight.
However, actual conversion may not be straightforward! This is because, in addition to needing accurate distance measurements, you also need to eliminate other interfering light sources in the environment.
